The Last Leg of the Flight
On July 2nd of 1937, Amelia Earhart left Laey for Howland Island. She encountered very strong headwinds and had to lower her plane due to the thick cloud. The winds were stronger than had been originally forecasted but she was clear in communicating with call signal KHAQQ. A few hours later at 6.15 AM, 15 minutes or so before her planned arrival time on Howland Island,Earhart attempted to contact the Itasca by whistling into a microphone.
