The Russians Are Trying to Survive in Syria
The Russian air force has divided up the kind of lines of contact into eight different air defence zones. They maintain a combat air patrol of at least two fighters in each of those pretty much all through daylight and sometimes in the night as well. The Russians are also using a lot of very long range air to air missile called R-37. And essentially what that's done is push back the ability of the Ukrainians to sustainably fly sorties, even at very low altitude to the front lines. We have seen an increase in recent weeks in the Sukho 34 fleet. So really high-end fight bombers conducting unguided bombing raids on Ukrainian frontline positions.
