Korean names are based on Hanjah, I think, and they still have to learn it. It's used for ceremonial purposes, but for the most part, Hanghou is what they use. My biggest piece of advice to anyone who wants to make a sort of naturalistic writing system is to intentionally have it go through some kind of transition from point A to point B.
