Sontenax and Toussaint - A History of Haiti

Sontenax's ambition was to create an autonomous administration for Haiti under his control. Sontenax attempted to build up a cult of personality around himself, as a great emancipator. He aimed to use that power to marginalize Luver Toor. Toussaint claimed he had no ambitions beyond expelling the British from Haiti but we know he hoped to exercise political power after the war was won.
