The Importance of Identity in Judaism
I'm not sure about a case of identity. Like for example, someone like Philo of Alexandria, first century. For him, that was no country. But we would describe him as perhaps being cosmopolitan. We sort of get this impression from the Comran texts as well right? Yes. A very inward-looking community with some stringent high-temperature beliefs about their role in the universe. Such people can also be influenced by other cultures where they don't even really know where the ideas came from. In the case of the Comran community, it's the two spirits of late and darkness, which I think is flagrantly Zoroastrian.
