The Difference Between Phonemic and Phonetic Transcription

The difference between phonemic and phonetic transcription is how narrow you can get in your IPA representations of what we're hearing from the speaker. I don't always find that there's a connection between the transcription provided and the and the recording. The choice of a symbol is a little bit, in a way it's arbitrary, it can be a little bit difficult to settle on for American English. Some dictionaries are sort of so latter as in, not I think you climb up, but the opposite of former.
