There's a theory that Mark was written for to be performed. The story of the woman taken in adultery is at the very end of John seven and mostly in John eight. In our earliest manuscripts, it's not there at all. And scholars are in pretty widespread agreement that this is a later addition to the text. But many contemporary translations will have either a footnote or they'll put brackets around the last dozen or so verses of the gospel of Mark saying, hey man, this isn't in some of our earliest witnesses.
