World war one was when the home economics movement really came to public attention. Community educators would go in a converted railroad car and show women how to can things. Bookert washington was very interested in getting it down to tuskegee where his wife, margaret murray washington, was enormously influential in home economics and black communities. The bureau of home economics had a very successful long running daily radio programme with aunt sammy. And that became this whole arm of called radio home makers.
