New policy in Japan creates more of a public system for elder care. This requires workers to go into the system, but also allows women to go into workforce. Care work in Japan is often paid at minimum wage level. It can be extremely physically and emotionally demanding. And so it's not really been a particularly attractive industry for people to go into.

Paris Marx is joined by James Wright to discuss Japan’s efforts to develop robots to care for its growing elderly population, what the government hoped to achieve with that plan, and why it hasn’t worked out as planned.
