Is There a Soft Landing?
People used to talk about the prospect of the soft landing. That kind of went away for a while. The idea that the Fed could raise rates and quash inflation without necessarily engineering a huge knock to economic growth is back in play. But until like unemployment really starts falling apart, that can't be disproven. And then there's the additional layer, which is let's say inflation were to come down and get closer to the Fed's goal but the unemployment rate refuses to budge. Does the Fed believe it or does the Fed say no?
