I Love Tower Babble and Babylon, Genesis 11

I love that story and I love teaching, you know, doing kind of exegetical work with students around that story. The first thing that kind of, I mean, I know we think of it as a story about hubris, human hubris and God sort of knocking them back down. But when I think about what the people are doing in that story, they're using technology to try to not get scattered. That's what they say is their motivation, not to aspire to be gods or to replace God but rather lest we be scattered. And so that strikes me, I'm sympathetic to that. So it's a failure of technology for sure.
