The Origins of Athenian Citizenship
The first medic known on the historical record to have received the privileges of Athenian citizenship was a Scythian philosopher named Anna Carces. He made a great impression as a forthright outspoken barbarian, whose conversational style was so frank that the Athenians came to call such speech as Scythian discourse. According to tradition, he arrived in Athens while Solon was occupied with his legislative measures.
