Sometimes you start with something that other people don't agree with, but eventually, they agree. I find noise to be the sense that I'm sound, and so if somebody were playing music in the lab, that would distract me for for everybody. Another example: transposons can serve as tumor suppressors. That idea was also fairly new; we published a paper last year in ancient immunology highlighting it.
