How Do Vaccination Rates Play Into These Decisions?
Vaccination is the only way for these countries to achieve immunity. If you have a vaccination rate of, i don't know, something over 80% which is what you have in europe, you supplement that with all the cases of infection. That means you golt a whole population immunity that may be much higher an ogf as protection. It's a sort of chicken and egg problem about getting vaccination rates high enough in order to open your borders, but having no cases, so you can't get vaccination rates highenough. And i think you're beginning to see that chain broken in a country like australia, which is reporting substantial cases now.
