China and the United Nations - Reconciling Status

China has a permanent seat but comes with a veto at the UN Security Council so it can direct international peace and security affairs. China's also realized that the United Nations is not just a tool for executing global governance, it is actually setting the direction of global governance. And I would argue we're seeing a point in China's foreign policy now where Beijing is looking to have a much more broader vision for global governance. It's a very interesting and important time to be studying China's UN politics.
