Bradford Gilbert was an architect for the New York Lake Erie and Western railroad. He wanted to build a 10-story office building in Manhattan's financial district. The rules of physics said he couldn't do it because his lot was only 22 feet wide. What if he is one of the steel frames that so capably carry trains and built it up instead of out?
