What Is the Biblical Rational for the Position of Elders in a Church?

The role of an elder as we see it in the old testament is different. In the new testament, they seem to be responsible for the teaching and the general guidance of the church. That's what paul charges them with in acts, chapter 20. The word comes from table waiter in the greek. They are charged by the congregation with caring for the church in its physical needs. We'll get into that in a couple of minutes, how we went about that,. but let's first talk about the biblical rational for the position of elders.
