In 19 o eight, alice hamilton wrote her first paper on the subject of occupational disease. This is the time when workers in the united ates were routinely handling toxic substances with little to know protection. She was appointed to lead an occupational disease commission, which was formed by illinois governor charles denin and that commission was established to study industrial disease. It was the first of its kind in the united states.
