We Make a Firm Covenant
Nehemiah, chapter nine describes the people gathering together to mourn. A day of collective repentance and re dedication was important at this point. People expressed their mourning with fasting, sackcloth, earth on their heads. They devoted a quarter of the day to listening to the reading of the law. The long prayer of confession recounts israel's history and the lord's dealing with them.
