Homosexuality was still seen as a crime in many parts of america, even in relatively progressive california. By the seventies there were gay parades in many American cities like san francisco and west hollywood. The first gak minister was ordained in 19 72 by the united church of christ. Parents and friends of lesbian's and gays did form in 19 72, an important group. But homosexual life certainly was not celebrated or condoned by the majority of America.
