Giuseppe became well known to the authorities because he just loved to stir up trouble and get into altercations. He eventually became the leader of a street gang that routinely just robbed people. And rumors went around town that he had stabbed a man. Sometimes that is reported as he stabbed a priest to death. But everyone was too afraid of him to really question the situation.
