There's some suggestion that one of the reasons Marshall very much did not like Jefferson was because he had heard the story from Rebecca about her experience with Jefferson. The thing with all of the intermarriages in Virginia is that you really have a very complicated family dynamic. And boy, the skeletons in the closet really sure do come out when we're talking about the leaves and the Randolphs and the Jeffersons and the marshals at this time.
