The Origins of Goosebumps

R.L. Stein wrote the original Goosebumps series, which debuted in 1992 to 1997. The target age demographic was ages seven to 11 and so they're short books that you can read in about an hour. Bolder covers are just a way of sanitizing mature themes into something acceptable for everybody - like Jimmy Aiken does with his Shakespeare works.
