Getting a Real Buy-in to a Company's Purpose

Many times when I look at work around purpose and even values, it becomes an exercise that is driven by the communications or marketing department. It's not maybe working on challenging the fundamental reasons of what drives the business. Novo Nordisk a few years ago had its purpose to produce insulin. Now that's not a purpose as I'm defining it, it's about producing profitable solutions to the problems of people and planet. The company was failing to deliver insulin to those parts of the world that were most in need of it.
