The History of Havel, New England
In 1697, a woman named Hannah Dustin was recovering from delivering her eighth child. When Abenacchies raided Havel, they killed and captured dozens of colonists. By the end of that century, disease and war would wipe out most Native Americans in the northeast. The word faggots on the monument refers to a bundle of sticks used to fuel a fire.
