Machar's syndicated columns have been collected in a book entitled the rest of us, despatches from the mother ship. She has also worked as a speech writer teacher and journalist. Her new novel is called the good son, which tells the story of two families devastated by a murder. On one side is thea, the mother of stephin was convicted of killing his childhood girl friend when he was in a drugged stupor. Jill turns her pain into activism, rallying around stephen's return home and violence against women.
