The History of Alcoholism in the United States
There's little, if any, evidence that Russians and other Slavs are more genetically susceptible to alcoholism. Alcoholism seems to be mostly a social thing on the old Eastern block. As access to industrially distilled spirits grew all over the world, women got real tired of dealing with the constant fallout. The traditional historical narrative in the US tells us that white southerners were quite keen to ban alcohol because they were terrified of black men getting drunk.
