When you start out writing a new book, it's always worth remembering that one of the gifts of writing the story is you don't quite know who's going to show up and not necessarily steal the show. So in many ways, you're in a major advantage of being able to start with a character that you've already kind of given a bit of backstory to. And I think that they can become really strong characters because of that kind of nurturing that you've done early on with them.
