"I know that the whole concept of free will is a contentious one because people are going to fall on one or other sides of the debate as it's traditionally had," he says. "My desire is to push back against that into sort of have a new understanding of what this term free will is which comports with a rational understanding of science while also preserving this traditional idea that we have that people make choices and that they're morally responsible for the choices that they make, so to speak."
