The Evolution of Mysticism

The evolution of the term mysticism doesn't come to us directly from the mystery cults. It enters into the Christian tradition via the pseudo-dynesius and other Christian authors who will be discussed in this podcast. We saw this in our Oxford English Dictionary definition of mysticism as belief in the possibility of union with the divine through ecstatic contemplation. Now if we want to keep the Buddhists in the discussion, we'll need to drop the divine part here.
