Freud offers us a psychoanalytic reconstruction of the material that hoffmann had so skilfully and imaginatively assembled. He uses narrative techniques of metaphor and matonomy, which are equivalent to the condensation and displacement of the dream work. The long footnote on page two, three, two is unfortunately too detailed and elaborate for us to go into now. But i would recommend our listeners to have a good read of it if they are interested in edipus's text.
