Edgar Allan Poe's Early Struggles and Setbacks
This chapter focuses on Edgar Allan Poe's early struggles and setbacks in his literary ambitions. It recounts how Poe was court-martialed and dismissed from service, and his subsequent move to Baltimore. Poe shifted his focus from poetry to prose and submitted short stories to a newspaper competition. Although he failed to win the cash prize, five of his stories were published throughout 1832.
