The Negative Impact of EU Accession on the Western Balkans

The fear in Kosovo is that this would produce some sort of an entity similar to the one in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Serska. There is still a lot of space there for Kosovo to create a more benign entity. But it has become a bit toxic politically because the current governing party in Kosovo had used its opposition to the ASM as its main rallying point when it was in opposition. The idea was that both countries wanted to join the EU with provided leverage for the EU through conditionality.
