Introduction
Researchers compared voters to their neighbors in an attempt to measure political isolation. As you might imagine, Americans today tend to live in bubbles. Almost 40% of Democrats live in areas in which fewer than a quarter of their neighbors are Republicans. The most isolated Democratic enclave is San Francisco and Oakland, California where almost 100% of the population votes Democrat. If you look at a map of the US, you see the same isolation effect.
