The CIA and the KGB
In 1986, the CIA had no Soviet assets left. Around two dozen of them have been vanished. The KGB helped to divert attention from Ames by planting false intel that the mole was in another division. In 1989, one of the mole-hunt team voiced surprise about the drastic change in Ames's appearance.
