The effective tipping point is the moment at which people can no longer justify ignoring a preponderance or an onslaught of disconfermatory evidence. The supposition here is that no organism could survive without some fail-safe for when counter-evidence becomes overwhelming. If you believe the earth is flat, how much evidence would I have to give you before you go, oh, okay, I was wrong about that? That's kind of what he was looking for. So there should be some sort of tipping point where you would switch from conservation mode to active learning.
