The Failure of an Imagination

There's a disconnect between what people believe to be true economically and the story that we're told about accelerating technological progress. Culturally, the sort of failure of an imagination of a different future is seen in the example of science fiction movies. I think it is probably a combination of political will and a belief that something like this could work that would enable it to work. And if you don't think it can work, it won't happen.
