Leslie had suffered ill health since birth born with a congenital cardiac condition. At age three she received open heart surgery to fix a faulty valve, but her body never fully recovered. By age 11 Leslie stood barely four feet high Waited just 25 kilograms and assessments revealed she had the mental age equivalent to that of a six-year-old.
