The Importance of Norms in an Open Society
In an open society, we tell ourselves what to do. So norms cannot be communicated with people or monarchical authority. Even though people in open societies believe in norms that for them are absolute, we are not an absolutist system. In part because we govern ourselves by polling ourselves every two and every four years,. We call them elections, these polls. And which means we govern itself by our opinions, we count them.
