Steve Greene: Amazon gets everything wrong. We're better at everything at Google. He says there's one very, very, very important thing that Amazon kicks our ass in and it's this. The only communication allowed is via service interface calls over the network. It doesn't matter what technology they use,. HTTP, Cobra, PubSub, custom protocols, doesn't matter. Bezos doesn't care. And then for everybody who used to work at Amazon, you know he didn't say thank you, have a nice day because he's so mean.
So, how DID an online book retailer end up building the infrastructure layer that powers the entire internet? (Or at least 39% of it, per latest market share data.) While many myths, legends, and some downright falsehoods exist, the real answer to that question deserves a full Acquired episode of its very own. So here it is: the story of Amazon Web Services. Who’s got the truth? Tune in and find out. :)
