The Limits of Free Speech in Athens
The true measure of free speech is, of course, where you draw the limits. And there were important limits in athens as well. The greeks didn't have a single word they talked about the matters to do with the gods - so there were laws against blasphemy. Free speech has its costs and i think we're both building up towards a famous instance of the test of what counts for impiety. That's the trial of socrates in three nine, nine, b, c, b,c, e,. exactly, we'll get to that very shortly.
