The Inability to Narrate
The loss of a child is terrifying, but perhaps also one could only experience what she experienced if one had that sort of attachment to temporality. She talks about attempting to find writers who can describe this state of rest of time. And the only one that she comes up with or finds consolation in is Dickinson. It's often some vivid arrested quality that her writing in acts and the lines that she quotes in the book, you know, sequence rabbles out of sound like balls upon the floor.
