Foundations of Physics

There has been in some fields a particularly close and intense kind of dialogue between people working in physics departments and people working in philosophy departments. So it's this kind of activity that I'm referring to when I talk about foundations of physics, which isn't anything in the nature of an official name. Some people who worked in the foundations of physics worked in physics departments. Others were involved in developing new scientific theories with new empirical predictions. It is hard to tell by looking at a presentation whether the person giving this presentation works in a philosophy department or works in a physics department.
