The Decline of the Copernican Astronomy
In 1660, Ottoman astronomers were given the Copernican account of the solar system. Taki Adin took it as an opportune sign for launching a military campaign against the Safavids. This expedition ended in failure and may be that the observatory was destroyed. The Tanzimat introduced free market economic policies and a thorough shake-up of the state bureaucracy to restore Ottomans' dominance.
