Coffee Isn't Like Alcohol
Coffee and the printing press are seen as a hindrance to progress. The argument was that coffee would not intoxicate you, keep you sober, but at the same time do things to your brain. This is no different than in britain where people were trying to find ways of banning coffee because it kept them awake all night. So we're takeng for granted to day because we've come along a long way. But when these food substances are initially being introduced within moslem societies, there's a lot of backwards and forwards to and fro witham.
