Tolstoy's Spiritual Crisis

Tolstoy is marvellous at writing women. He's very early pro woman, which is funny because if you read his wife's letters, if you read any biographical stuff, he seems very misogynistic. My belief is that he was most likely misanthropic, rather than misogynistic. He hated everybody, not just women, except in his novel.
