Is Joyce More Greek Than the Greeks?

i got into a great tif with joyce carroll oates over that comment about ulysses, who's a friend of mine. To my mind, the joyce of dubliners, to me, is the greatest and most authentic joyce. It seems much more natural to me. And i think it's his best work, actually. But maybe it is a greek versus hebrew problem, you know. Or is this, is this over determined ness? Because it feels like maybe it is very much a, is joyce being more greek than the greeks when he should have been more hebraic? or is this something else?
