The current machine learning is weak at understanding the causal effect of the I do something something happens. If things are correlated with each other, they usually have something to do with each other. Quite often there is something hidden beneath or behind that that cause both to happen together. It might very well turn out that with the right kind of training and applications, they can actually start finding correlation structures.
