The Pronunciation of the Word Boy or Bo

Two grammarians, john walker and benjamin humphrey smart, each published separate pronunciation guides in britain. Walker came first, and he said the word should be pronounced as schedule,. But a later edition of his book said that schedule with the s k sound, was an acceptable alternative. In the united states, noah webster's american diction rian speller said  the word should bepronounced as schedule. The spelling was changed at that point, in the 15 hundreds, to its modern spelling, with the s c h letter combination. So you can see how sound changes are important in identifying the source of modern english words.
