The Importance of Fear in the Brain
While traditionally considered a negative emotion, fear actually serves as an important role to keep us safe. Some people find fear nearly intolerable and avoid the emotion at all costs. Others experience pleasure from feeling fear and seek it out like watching a horror film. It really takes a well-developed capacity for compassion to respect, feel sympathetic, toward someone who's afraid of something we're not afraid of.
